Lucknow: The provision of ₹3,123 lakh crore in the Union Budget for metro rail projects in Uttar Pradesh will accelerate the second phase of the Lucknow Metro project. Additionally, it paves the way for the operation of light metro rail in Prayagraj, Varanasi, Gorakhpur, Jhansi, and Meerut. However, a significant portion of the allocated funds will be spent on the ongoing metro projects in Kanpur and Agra. Nevertheless, some amount will also be utilized for the preliminary work of the proposed light metro projects in Prayagraj, Varanasi, Gorakhpur, Jhansi, and Meerut, along with the second phase of the Lucknow Metro project.
🔹 The first phase of the Lucknow Metro has been completed, and metro projects are currently operational in Kanpur and Agra. Additionally, a ropeway project is under development in Varanasi.
🔹 The Yogi government has also prepared a proposal to start light metro operations in Varanasi, Prayagraj, Gorakhpur, Jhansi, and Meerut. The Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the Gorakhpur Light Metro has already been sent to the Central Government for approval.
